Golf Digest is out with their list of the top 100 courses in the nation. The list hasn’t hanged much from two years ago. New Jersey’s Pine Valley has held on to the number one spot. Augusta dropped from second to third. Rounding out the top ten are Cypress Point, Oakmont, Pebble Beach, Merion, Winged Foot, Seminole and Crystal Downs. Lorena Ochoa is the thorn in Annika Sorenstam’s side. This week Ochoa could take Sorenstam’s crown of the LGPA. Sorenstam, who carries 10 career titles, has only landed a second and eighth place in here two showings this year. In contrast, Ochoa has a win and three other top ten finishes. Sorenstam’s won this weeks Mission Hills Country Club tournament three times, but she’ll have some tough compitition in Lorena.

Arjun Atwal says witnesses to the fatal car crash he was in are wrong. He was not speed racing his 500-horsepower BMW M6 at 100 MPH, he was only driving 80 in the 45 MPH zone. In fact Atwal says he wasn’t even street racing:

“Arjun categorically denies that he was involved in any kind of racing or street racing,” says Robert Kreusler, CEO of Blue Giraffe, the sports management company representing Atwal.

Trooper Kim Miller said there were no signs the cars touched each other. She said Park’s car lost control, veering off the road into a fence and small tree and flipping up to eight times.

“You could actually see the spots that were dug into the grass,” Miller said. “As he’s going end-over-end, the car is just coming apart. It was a very violent crash.”

After Park lost control, Atwal veered the other way off the divided four-lane highway, across the median and into the opposite lane of traffic, according to the highway patrol accident diagram. He did not hit any vehicles there, Miller said.

Vijay Singh, who won the Masters in three of the last six years, will skip this week’s Shell Houston Open to prepare for the Masters. Guess Shell’s $5 million purse isn’t convincing enough.
