The Golf Mag club test is pretty cool: They take 40 readers of the magazine and send them with custom clubs to play for two weeks at Ginn Reunion Resort in Florida. It’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it! Check out the ClubTest here: Golf Magazine ClubTest 2007.

Death By Golf Cart: Women killed On Course

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

deathbygolfcart
Next time you look at a golf cart remember the story of Charlotte “Sally” Stewart. Stewart is the proud owner of the worst tee shot in history. The 79-year old golfer was playing the third hole at Quail Point Golf Course in Oregon on Tuesday when she was run over by her 84-year old partner in the couple’s golf cart. Stewart knocked her tee shot across the paved lane. When she went after the ball her partner Beryl Pope nailed her in his cart and then tipped it on top on Stewart. The police spokesman explains:

Investigators think Pope might have accidentally hit the cart’s accelerator instead of the brake. Toxicology tests on the cart’s driver were done as part of the standard protocol.

Just goes to show you never know when it’s your turn to go. And always remember to look both ways.

The hot nurse from GolfPunk has hit the road. They’re looking for a new girl in white. If you or someone you know is interested, click here: Hot Golf Nurse.

The Golf Hot List is out and some of the results might surprise you. The Aspiring Golfer has a nice round-up.

The second season of Golf Survivor has wrapped up. We gave it a shot but than realized we suck at contests. Oobgolf took the top spot, kicking out The Golf Girl.

Speaking of contests, we run tons of them over at Golfnow.tv. It’s a daily trivia video blog hosted by the insanely talented Keri Murphy. (As GolfBabes pointed out.) Check it: GolfNow.tv.

Going Down: Annika Sorenstam Pushed into Second

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

annika
It too longer than we thought, but Lorena Ochoa has ousted Annika Sorenstam from her home in the number one ratings spot. This sentence from the BBC says it all:

Ochoa, 25, has had five top 10 finishes in her six tournaments this year. Sorenstam, 36, has not won a tournament in 2007 and is likely to be out of action until June with a back injury.

Bummer of a year for Annika. In other news, Wie is done playing her Wii and will get back to golf

Learn To Play Golf Or Don’t Get Promoted

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

It seems harsh — and totally unrelated — but skipping golf with coworkers and higher-ups might leave you finding very little corporate advancement. An article in the latest issue of Fortune discusses how the simple act at not playing golf can cost an employee a promotion, a raise or a spot on one of the top deals. Fortune pinpoints how not playing golf can have the largest impact on women. This comes the same day a study was published by the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation that found women earn only 80% what men earn from the first year out of college to at least 10 years down the road. The reasons for the unequality were cited as many, but the Fortune golf article could offer a little incite:

In a 2004 survey of 1,000 women golfers, 73% said that the game had helped them develop important business relationships, and over half said that being able to talk knowledgeably about golf had contributed to their success, according to the poll by Golf for Women magazine.

Another study, by nonprofit research group Catalyst, found that, among 705 women managers at Fortune 1,000 companies, 41% said that not participating in informal social networks held them back at work, and the informal networking activity they mentioned most was…well, you can guess.

One organization — founded by a women executive — provides golf lessons for the corporate mover. Strelmark is a Washington D.C. based business consulting firm, that offers golf workshops. Interesting to say the least.
