Strange And Green Land In The Golf Hall

Curtis Strange and Hubert Green are this year’s inductees into the Golf Hall of Fame. Strange and Green both have almost 20 tour wins. Strange won the masters twice. Green almost won the masters, and also owns one of most interesting moments in PGA history. Bloomberg reports:

Green, who missed a three-foot putt on the final hole of the 1978 Masters Tournament that would have forced a playoff with Gary Player, is best known for winning the U.S. Open a year earlier following a death threat.

After a caller told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Green would be shot on the 15th hole, a police officer accompanied Green on the final four holes.

Green recalled standing over a long putt on the 15th green of Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“Am I supposed to be shot?” he said. “I hit the putt and didn’t hear anything. I said, `Chicken.’ I two-putted, won the tournament.”

Ha! I’m changing my opinion on pressure.
