Hi everyone!

This week, we’re not doing the usual kind of trivia questions. Instead, we’re showing you quotes about golf and asking who said them. Our first quote was yesterday and 76% of the entries we received had the correct answer so we’ll find out who said yesterday’s quote on today’s show so you can see if your answer was correct.

Our first winner for this week was Kenneth Jones of Peoria, Arizona and our prize was a Satin series wedge from Feel Golf. Congratulations, Kenneth!

Okay, that’s it for today. Have a great Tuesday! - Keri

Natalie Gulbis Wins! Not The Anna Kournikova Of Golf

Monday, July 30th, 2007

nataliegulbis
Natalie Gulbis is now the owner a perfect bikini body AND a LPGA trophy. The golfer model took first place at the Evian Masters for her first title in five years on tour. ESPN is there:

Jang and the 24-year-old American finished the fourth round tied at 4-under 284. Gulbis had a final round 70, and Jang birdied the last hole to finish with a 72.

“Obviously it was meant to be for me,” Gulbis said. “Before the playoff, I was very upset at myself because I felt like I had given away this tournament. I thought I needed to get to 7 under to win and I end up at, what, four? Going in today, I never thought that four under would have won this tournament.”

There ya go. Tour win, TV show, calendar, video games. Girls not doing too bad.

Hi everyone and happy Monday!

Congratulations to our winner on Big Prize Friday last week - Mike Trautman of Surprise, Arizona. Mike won an Odyssey Black Series Milled Putter, which is one of the putters given a Gold Medal on Golf Digest’s 2007 “Hot List”.

Our theme last week was Nick Falso and our question on Friday was on the tournament where Nick won his last professional victory. Almost 70% of the entries had the correct answer so we’ll find out on today’s show what the answer was.

This week, we’re doing something a little different. We’re going to show you famous quotes about golf and ask you who said them. We think it will be a fun change from our regular trivia questions.

Okay, that’s it for today. Have a great week, everyone! - Keri

Callaway Golf Shares May Have Been Driven Too Far

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Callaway Golf shares are just off two year highs. The club and ball maker has had a spectacular turnaround the last two quarters as new products (drivers) and cost cuts have jump started growth at the firm. But the run in the stock may be looking close to a near term peak. Barrons reports:

Callaway Golf (ELY) could head lower as the peak summer season wanes amid continued concern about overall consumer discretionary spending. Discounting of golf-club prices, delayed in part by the one-month recall of Nike’s (NKE) new square-shaped driver, is also expected to tee off in the coming months. In addition, Callaway is still in the midst of turning around Top-Flite Golf, the bankrupt ball and club manufacturer acquired in late 2003. Callaway executives have also made their first and largest insider stock sales in years, indicating that there may be limited upside in the near term. CFO Bradley Holiday expects Callaway to continue to cut costs and finish improving its supply chain over the next year or two before focusing on expansion. So far, Callaway has cut the lead time of manufacturing and getting clubs to consumers from 90-to-120 days, to now 60 days. Callaway’s preannounced Q2 earnings last week were better than expected but did little to move the stock higher. Tim Conder, senior leisure analyst at A.G. Edwards & Sons, says the lackluster reaction is because “2007 will create tough comparisons for 2008, and people are just noticing the significant amount of year-to-date insider selling.”

The Callaway share run up is noteworthy primarily for the fact that golf gear makers have had nearly zero growth for about five years.
