Word to the wise: if your golf ball goes deep into a lake, let it be. That advice would’ve served a 46-year-old golfer from New York well as yesterday he drowned trying to reclaim a couple balls he deep into Lake Michigan.

According to police, Douglas W. Miller was seen screaming for help from out in the lake. A couple guys paddled out in a canoe and tried to rescue Miller. There effort was too late. By the time paramedics made it to the shore Douglas had kicked the can. Police say he was trying to get his ball.
