For the third time in 2007 a golfer has been tragically killed by a golf cart. This time 33-year-old Nichole Ely was thrown from her cart when the driver made a sharp turn. Ely hit her head on the ground at the Ocean Reef Club. Police say neither the driver nor Nichole were wearing their seatbelts. Clearly, in this circumstance, a life could have been saved by taking basic precautions.

But as we’ve learned so far this year, wearing your seatbelt isn’t the only thing you need to do to protect yourself from these seemingly safe machines. A San Diego man drove his cart off a cliff, and a 79-year-old women was crushed to death when the driver flipped the cart on top of her.

And don’t forget the guy who died in the pond.
