Sergio Garcia Moves To World No. 2 Spot
Phil Mickelson gets pushed to No. 3 in the World Rankings after Sergio Garcia beat Oliver Wilson in a playoff at the rain-delayed HSBC Champions tournament Monday in Shanghai, China. Just last week before the HSBC Champions, Sergio Garcia had expressed his intent to topple Phil Mickelson from the number two position and stake his claim as the best amongst the rest, that is after discounting Tiger Woods of course! To see him go ahead and do it with a win in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the tour calendar is surely a great achievement. He is riding a wave of great form and he is looked every bit of world number 2 so I am not surprised to see him there. I think it would fair enough to say that without a shadow of doubt he is the most talented player never to have won a major.
But I said it when he lost his shot at the majors earlier this year that somehow in the defeats it felt like he had turned the corner and he has played some super golf after that. So it really does bode well for him and I will not be surprised if he goes on to win a major next year. Just don’t want to jinx the poor guy. Let’s hope our Amigo from Spain can finally win a major next season.
Play Well.
