Women On Course

Golf can be intimidating for beginners. Just ask Kerry Woodard, who lives in Brooklyn and works in the finance industry. Kerry had never played a round of golf before, but decided to give it a try in the Fall of 2012, after her brother encouraged her to join a women’s golf networking organization called Women on Course (WOC).

“I learned so much and had a blast all weekend,” Kerry said of her inaugural 3-day Las Vegas golf weekend trip she took with other women from the group. “At first I was a little intimidated but before long, I felt like these women were my best friends.”

Kerry learned how to play golf without pressure in a friendly setting, and while sharing camaraderie with other strong, outgoing women. Until discovering WOC, Kerry admits she had always thought of golf as a man’s game.

“But what I found was that I was immediately comfortable around the women who were on the trip with me. There was a certain kinship that we all had with each other. I also thought the golf clinics were amazing. And I fell right into the game. I became totally committed to each golf shot. And when I did hit the ball well, I was ecstatic. I guess it’s why we keep coming back to golf. And now, I look forward to each WOC event.”

Since lugging her clubs through the New York subway during the week isn’t really feasible, Kerry takes advantage of most of the 3-day weekend golf getaways, but there are so many event options, WOC caters to all different schedules. There are Nine and Wine play days, golf lessons, happy hours and off-course networking events. Plus, WOC is partnered with over 200 courses across the United States with chapters in major cities such as Boston, Chicago, Denver, Tampa and more, making it easy to get involved no matter where you live.

So, if you or your wife, sister, mother or friends are interested in meeting other women with similar interests and enjoying fun golf events, why not give Women on Course a try?
