5 Great Fall Foliage Walking Courses


With the fall season settling in, and the ominous winter months peering around the corner, we’re realizing that our days left on the course this year may be dwindling down.

But, there’s no need to fret– the fall season isn’t just the time for too-much turkey and pumpkin-flavored everything, it’s the time to enjoy the outdoors before we head inside for the winter’s hibernation. The fall season brings some of the best views of the year on the course and weather that just can’t be beat.

Lyman Orchards Golf Club (Middlefield, CT) – What says fall like the scent of apples and tall picturesque pines? Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, Conn., boasts its very own apple orchard, multiple golf courses designed by greats like Robert Trent Jones and Gary Player, and 360-degree views of the southern Connecticut landscape. Sprinkled with deciduous trees and ample elevation changes, the Connecticut locale makes for the perfect fall outing. If we haven’t convinced you yet, Lyman Orchards Golf Club isn’t just orchards and great golf, they make a pretty impressive apple pie, too– but don’t tell them we told you.

Whirlpool Golf Course (Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada) – Designed by the “Toronto Terror” himself, Stanley Thompson, Whirlpool Golf Course in Ontario, Canada, is one of the country’s most highly-rated courses. The Whirlpool course is part of the Niagara Parks Commission, and overlooks the Niagara river, along with hundreds of trees of different varieties. This is a can’t-miss course, especially in the fall.

Red Tail Golf Club (Ayer, MA) – Named for the red-tailed hawks that can be seen overhead, Red Tail Golf Club, just outside of Boston, Mass., prides itself on its environmental responsibility. With the natural New England terrain at the focus, architect Brian Silva designed Red Tail to work the area’s scenic beauty. The mix of maples, oaks, pines, and birches make for a colorful fall landscape worth walking through.

Christmas Mountain Village (Wisconsin Dells, WI) – Situated among the rolling hills of the Wisconsin Dells, the golf courses at Christmas Mountain Village offer a serene escape from all of the excitement the area has in store. The Oaks course and the Pines course are named after the trees that line their fairways. With plenty of fun for the whole family, Christmas Mountain is great for an autumn getaway, or just a quick round.
