Spotlight: The Bridges Golf Club in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is a bustling and busy scene. Thankfully there are quiet escapes if you know where to look.
Metroplex golfers in the know will key you in on the solitude available in Gunter, Texas at The Bridges Golf Club, located north of downtown Dallas on Highway 289.
The Bridges is one of the Metroplex’s newest public golf courses, having opened in 2008. It was designed by golf course architect Jeff Brauer and PGA Tour hall-of-famer Fred Couples.
A hearty dose of “Boom-Boom” will be needed if you play the tips. This course can stretch to over 7,600 yards! And The Bridges has been awarded by the USGA a US Open 2021 local qualification site (May, 2021 for all you plus-handicaps out there). Truth is, there’s plenty of space out here for long holes but also pleasant surrounds. The course winds through The Bridges at Preston Crossing, but holes are spread out, giving golfers ample space to swing and few, if any other groups to be seen or heard. The forward two of the five sets of tees play under 6,000 yards so everyone has a good time out here.
Facilities are also elite-event worthy. There is a full driving range, short game area and practice green. Members of this semi-private club enjoy pool, tennis and fitness facilities.
“This course is one of my go-to’s for a nice, stress free round,” wrote bnovak24 in a October, 2020 Golf Advisor five-star review of The Bridges. “It’s in great shape, staff is friendly and easy going, holes are challenging, and it’s affordable. Always a win/win here!”
If it’s been awhile since you played The Bridges, come back and see the courses’s brand new greenside bunkers. Drainage has been added and both wooden bridges have been replaced.
So put Gunter on your DFW golf map. A day of public-access golf in North Texas doesn’t get any better than The Bridges Golf Club.
