This Week in Golf
The theme of facing adversity has held true for many this week with broken clubs, hurtful words and even a detrimental night’s sleep. Here’s some of the most interesting news bits to come out of the pro golf sphere this week:
1. Feathergate: Tiger’s Stiff Back Woes Continue – After taking it easy during Wednesday’s pro-am at The Barclays due to a stiff back from sleeping on a soft hotel bed, Tiger Woods shot out of the gate in round one with a 4-under 67, but later revealed he did so with further back tightness.
2. Kenny Perry’s Delta Heartbreak – While Champion’s Tour player Kenny Perry has been on fire this summer, winning two majors, he suffered a setback this week when Delta Airlines damaged his prized driver in route to TPC Snoqualmie Ridge for this week’s event.
3. The Fan Shouting Debate Heats Up – Though fan outbursts like “mashed potatoes” and “Baba Booey” were the center of debate last week, conversation on the topic has continued this week and heated up between PGA TOUR player Ian Poulter and famous radio shock jock Howard Stern.
4. Sadlowski Destroys ANOTHER Simulator – Last November long drive champion Jamie Sadlowski broke Golf Channel’s extremely expensive simulator monitor – and broke through a sheet of wood and the wall behind it. This week, Sadlowski did it again – but with a 7-iron.
5. Bubble Boy Crane’s Latest Rap Track – Ben Crane has been dogged by injuries much of this season and finished only 10 points ahead of No. 126 Robert Streb in the FedEx Cup points list, but he seemed plenty limber in gallivanting around Liberty National, host of this week’s Barclays, in his latest rap music video titled “Bubble Boy.”
