Q&A: Tour 18 Head Pro
Just north of Houston lies a gem of a golf course –Tour 18 Golf Club. Tour 18 GolfClub features replicas of some of the most famous golf holes from around the country, giving golfers a truly unique experience. And head golf pro David Munday helps to make that experience rewarding and enjoyable for every golfer that comes through to play the course. We talked with David to get a little behind-the-scenes info about his career, the Tour 18 course, and what makes this destination so special for golfers from across the country.
Q: David, tell us a little bit about yourself and about the course.
David: Sure. I started out nearly 30 years ago as a PGA pro in Oklahoma, and I’ve been here at Tour 18 for just over six years now. We’ve got 50 team members here as well, all dedicated to making this a fun and one-of-a-kind golf experience.
Q: What are some of the most fun features at the course?
David: I’m excited about the Top Tracer Range, which gives golfers a combination driving range and gaming experience. The same technology they use on tour to track and show the shots is what we have at our indoor range. We also just renovated our pro shop within the last 6 months, and we’re thrilled to have golfers coming through in large numbers to see what’s on the shelves.
Q: Diving into the course itself, what makes it such a special place to play?
David: The obvious answer is that the holes really do replicate some of the best or most famous holes from championship courses around the country. For me, though, the special factors are the fact that we’re just thirty-five minutes outside of downtown Houston, and our course offers the best conditions compared to any other course in the area. Combined with the different challenges you get with the various holes, it’s just a great place to play golf.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to an aspiring golfer or someone just starting out?
David: The obvious answer is “practice all the time,” but I think the first thing I would tell someone is to keep patience in mind. Work on those fundamentals and don’t overdo it with your swing. Start small and you’ll see great results almost immediately.
